Lei'Asha is a senior at Riverview High School and a proud member of our Roy McBean Boys & Girls Club. She is also an incredibly talented artist whose work has been nationally-recognized by Boys & Girls Clubs of America a number of times throughout her high school years.
As she prepares to graduate, Lei'Asha curated a 7-piece collection of her collages for her art class, which will count toward a major percentage of her final grade. She worked alongside our Club staff, including Ms. Kat, a graduate of Ringling College of Art and Design, to transform the dance room at our Lee Wetherington Boys & Girls Club into her very own art gallery. She invited her teacher, Mr. Miles Mowry, to come grade her work.
Lei'Asha's show celebrates the rainbow within African American women. She used construction paper and Elmer's glue to bring each piece to life.
"Throughout my exhibition, I am able to captivate my vision of the rainbow within me," she says. "To display the rainbow within myself, I portrayed positive perceptions of African American women. I chose my ethnicity, especially my gender, to be a role model for young ladies such as myself."
After high school graduation, Lei'Asha will attend Duquesne University on a full-ride scholarship as a Drs. Robert and Patricia Endowed Scholar. She dreams of turning her passions into businesses, including an art gallery, and giving back to her community.
